Obedience Class Descriptions

Puppy Socialization Class (Early Puppy Socialization - 2 to 4 months)

This class focuses on Socialization for your puppy. Attending this class will expose your puppy to new dogs, new people and new experiences. This is vital to his social development. Your puppy will be introduced to basic obedience such as walking on a leash, coming when called, sit and down.  Games, agility equipment and off-leash playtime will build your pups' confidence. Your instructor will also help you with common behavior problems such as barking, mouthing and jumping.  This is fun for you and your puppy.

Puppy Obedience (4 to 6 months)

Treats and praise are used to teach your puppy basic obedience skills. Your dog will learn Attention, which will teach your dog to focus on you. Your dog will learn to Walk nicely on a leash, Sit, Down, Stay/Come..  Leadership is very important.  We will teach your dog that you are his leader and learning is fun.

Trainers will work with you to resolve any behavior problems such as chewing, jumping and barking. Food bowl and object exercises will ensure your dogs' respect.  Agility equipment and games make it fun for you and your dog while building their skills. Interaction with classmates will prevent your dog from developing fear/dominance issues with other dogs.

Beginner Obedience (7 months and up)

This class is for a dog that has completed Puppy Obedience or a dog that has had no formal training.

The focus of this class is to teach your dog to be a well-behaved, polite companion. Attention, heeling, sit, down, stay, stand, recall (come) and front are taught in a fun, positive manner.  We teach your dog to sit politely next to you while strangers approach.

Leadership training for you will give you a healthy, balanced relationship with your dog.  Our trainers are able to work with you on any behavior problem you may be having.

Pre-Novice / Novice

This class continues where Beginners left off. Formal heeling is introduced. Obedience skills will be taught using Rally Exercises. This class is for those desiring a well trained dog.

Beginner Novice / Rally

The beginner novice/rally class will introduce the exercises required to complete the optional titling class called "Beginner Novice", as well as introducing rally obedience. The exercises included are a combination of rally novice and some novice obedience exercises. The intent of the 'beginner novice' title is to offer exhibitors a transition class from rally to novice, which still allows the handler to give a couple of extra encouraging words to his dog, yet begin to teach him the basics of novice obedience. It also introduces some basic rally exercises. The course will alternate weeks with 'beginner novice' one week and 'rally obedience' the next.
